'Godspell' comes to First Presbyterian

The music group ELATION of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Mesquite, Texas, will appear in concert at the First Presbyterian Church of Meadville on Thursday, June 26 at 7:00 pm.

ELATION is composed of 33 youth ranging in age from 12 to 18. This troupe was formed in 1999, and has since performed the musical Godspell for over 150 congregations in 33 states and in Canada. The Meadville performance is part of ELATION's 2014 twelve-day, ten-state summer tour.

Godspell, written in 1971 by American composer Stephen Schwartz, draws mainly on parables from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke to retell the story of Christ's ministry. The musical had a successful run of 527 performances on Broadway, and has since been acclaimed by audiences worldwide.

A freewill collection will be taken during the performance. First Presbyterian Church is located at 890 Liberty Street in Meadville; for further information visit www.elationyouth.com or phone 333-2161.

Summer worship

As in years past, First Presbyterian will switch to its summer worship schedule on May 25th. The 8:30 and 11:00 services will be combined into one 9:30 service, with communion celebrated on June 8th (Pentecost), July 6th, and August 3rd. Regular worship hours will resume on September 7th.

The Chancel Choir and Liberty Bell Choir are taking a well-deserved summer hiatus. Music at the 9:30 services will be provided by vocal or instrumental soloists. Kevin Dill would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in offering their musical talents over the summer. He can be contacted at kevindill@meadvillefpc.org or via the church office at 333-2161.
